At Vienna Design Week 2026, our team hosted a hands-on workshop to explore a shared question: how do we want to get around Vienna? Bringing together fellow designers and mobility enthusiasts, we explored how everyday experiences, needs, and ideas could help shape more seamless journeys across the city.

Using journey mapping, participants split into two teams, each exploring a different journey through the eyes of a passenger archetype. Along the way, they traced moments of confusion, relief, frustration, and delight, reflecting on what works today and where there is room for improvement.

From these lively discussions, two key insights emerged, offering a glimpse of how tomorrow’s mobility could evolve:

01/ The Space Between

Time between rides matters just as much as time on board.

Team 1 highlighted how much of a journey happens between rides: walking between platforms, waiting for connections, or finding the way through a station. These moments offer opportunities to improve the passenger experience. Clearer, timely information could help people navigate with confidence, while more comfortable and welcoming waiting areas could make time between connections more meaningful.

02/ Connected Mobility

Carsharing needs to become a seamless part of the wider mobility network.

Team 2 explored a journey combining carsharing with a train ride. Their discussion revealed uncertainties that can make this combination difficult: where to park, how long unlocking and returning a vehicle takes, and how to keep track of onward connections. The team identified a need for better integration between services, helping passengers plan their whole journey and move confidently from one mode of transport to another.
